Publishing

Publishing in Beats occurs via channels – a channel is a ‘delivery’ point. Any story which needs publishing needs to define on what channel it is to be published. A channel is something like:

  • RSS feeds
  • Websites
  • Mobile apps
  • Social media channels like
    • Twitter
    • Facebook
    • YouTube
  • Radio and TV playout

There are 2 important steps for publishing:

  • Channel set-up – described in a separate section – Channel set-up
  • Channel publishing

Channel publishing

Firstly create the channel in the story to be published:

Open “Story Composer” in the left menu  and then open your “Story”. On the right panel of the screen the story will be displayed.

Click the button “Create Channel”

A modal panel will be displayed and you can choose the channel to publish on.

Note Beats supports ‘channel templates’ – these templates define which fields are available to be published to the channel.  A field is an item such as a text field (title, description) or a media item (image, video) etc.

Once you have created one or more channel stories you will see them displayed in the story.

Open your channel.

On the right you will see the information contained in this channel. For this example we’ll use the Twitter channel:

The information in the basic template to export to Twitter is:

  • Image

Now you must change the “Status”.

Depending on your organisation set-up you will have various workflow states. This depends if you have an authorisation hierarchy in order to publish or not. However whatever your workflow the publishing state needed here is Schedule. Once scheduled the channel story is placed into the publishing queue. This queue is not yet publishing the story but it is ready.

Publish from the queue

Open the “Schedule” tab and you will find your Twitter channel ready to publish.

Now, click on the ‘globe’ icon and wait until the system publishes, going from the left side “Scheduled” to the right “Published”. You can see the state of publishing with a progress bar and the information icon reveals a panel with the detailed job status.

Wait until your item is uploaded.

When your item appears in the “Published” area, it has been successfully published to, in this case the Twitter account you set-up.
